The town of Bellpuig in the Urgell region officially started its new door-to-door selective waste collection service this week, targeting a significant increase in local recycling rates.

The rollout began with organic waste, paper, and cardboard. Bellpuig now joins Verdú as the only municipalities in the area to implement this model for all five waste categories, marking a milestone for waste management in the Urgell district.

"It is a mandate project to improve recycling levels, a pending task as the current rate is 41.7%."

Jordi Estiarte · Mayor of Bellpuig
Local authorities praised the community's initial cooperation, noting the high number of bins placed on the streets during the first day. The initiative seeks to modernize waste disposal and meet environmental targets.
