The town of Bellpuig in the Urgell region officially started its comprehensive door-to-door selective waste collection system this week to improve its 41.7% recycling rate.

The rollout began with organic waste, paper, and cardboard collection. Bellpuig now joins Verdú as the only municipalities in the area to collect all five waste fractions directly from households. Mayor Jordi Estiarte highlighted the high initial participation during the first day of the new service.

"This is a mandate project to improve recycling levels, a pending task. We fully trust the citizens of Bellpuig."

Prior to the launch, the City Council distributed recycling kits at the local sports center. Approximately 90% of the 8,786 bins have already been delivered to residents, following an extensive information campaign and public meetings held over the last fortnight.
