Members of the CIM of Bellpuig attended the 50th Flama del Canigó Congress in Arenys de Mar, celebrating Catalan cultural heritage and tradition.

A group of members from the CIM (Centre Excursionista) of Bellpuig participated last weekend in the 50th Flama del Canigó Congress, held in Arenys de Mar. This annual event brings together entities, volunteers, and citizens committed to the language, culture, and traditions of the Catalan Countries.
This year's edition held special significance, as Arenys de Mar commemorates various anniversaries related to the Flama, reaffirming its role as a meeting point for this cultural and popular movement symbolizing the continuity and unity of the Catalan people.
Bellpuig's presence at this congress highlights its pioneering role in spreading the Flama del Canigó in the Terres de Ponent (Lands of Lleida). The tradition began in the town in 1974 when a group of young people called “La Fontana” decided to bring it to the municipality, contacting the TIC collective in Barcelona during the Franco regime.
As a result of this effort, the Flama del Canigó first arrived in Bellpuig and the Terres de Ponent in 1975. At that time, the Flama traveled by small plane from Perpignan to Reus, from where the Bellpuig group transported it to the town, making it a benchmark for this tradition in western Catalonia.
The participation of CIM members in this 50th congress symbolizes the recognition and continuation of this historical legacy, reaffirming Bellpuig's commitment to the defense and promotion of Catalan popular culture. The congress also served to exchange experiences and strengthen ties between the participating municipalities.
