The EnBelliment project, driven by Quàlia, targets individuals aged 65 and over in the Urgell and Segarra regions to combat loneliness and promote active leisure.

The initiative by Quàlia has launched EnBelliment, a project designed to address unwanted loneliness and promote active, meaningful leisure among individuals aged 65 and over residing in the Urgell and Segarra regions.
This initial phase focuses on diagnosing needs and building strategic alliances with residences, local councils, and social services in the territory. The initiative stems from the concerning reality that in Catalonia, over 320,000 elderly people live alone, and nearly 30% experience isolation, according to Idescat data (2021). The situation is particularly severe in rural areas, affected by depopulation, which reduces support networks and access to activities.
Within residences, the lack of external connection is also significant. A study on leisure for the elderly in Urgell (2025) indicates that over 98% of recreational activities take place within the centers themselves. Faced with this scenario, EnBelliment aims to empower seniors as active participants in their leisure, combining work with residents through a facilitator and providing support to elderly individuals living alone in municipalities via a rural facilitator.

"EnBelliment is born from the conviction that leisure, participation, and community connection are not luxuries, but rights. We want elderly people to be able to exercise them regardless of where they live."

Currently, about ten people are actively participating in this initial phase, with the support of the Fundació bonÀrea of Guissona. Participatory assemblies have been held to identify needs and define activities aligned with participants' interests. Studies like the one from IMSERSO (2020) support this approach, highlighting improvements in quality of life and mental health through participation in chosen activities.
With projections indicating that Catalonia could reach three million people over 64 by 2070, EnBelliment is conceived as a transformative, sustainable, and replicable proposal. Quàlia collaborates with town councils, county councils, social services, primary care centers, and local entities to build a community network committed to good treatment and dignified aging.
