The capital of Sweden hosts this year's Adifolk International Gathering, a key event for promoting Catalan traditional culture abroad. The Esbart Albada, with its 'Balls de Bastons' (Stick Dances), is one of the 42 Catalan entities participating, totaling 1,200 performers. This edition is anticipated to be the largest in the Gathering's history.
The program in Stockholm is part of the Kulturfestivalen, an annual open-air festival featuring music, dance, theatre, and art. The event will include an opening spectacle with all Catalan groups, a parade, a 'diada castellera' (human tower display), and a concert, among other activities.
The mayor of Tàrrega, Rosa Maria Perelló, has sent an institutional greeting to Karin Björnsdotter, the mayor of Stockholm, on the occasion of the Esbart Albada's visit. The Tàrrega delegation consists of about twenty people.
Since its first edition in Amsterdam in 1988, the Adifolk International Gathering has visited numerous European cities to showcase exponents of Catalan traditional culture. Delegations from Tàrrega have participated previously, including the Associació Guixanet in Budapest (2012), the Àliga de Tàrrega in Ostrava (2017), and the Esbart Albada itself in Bastia (Corsica) last year.
