The city of La Seu d’Urgell hosted this Sunday the third edition of the Intercultural Fair, an event that filled the Joan Brudieu promenade with the participation of twelve nationalities. The Councilor for Solidarity and Cooperation of the Town Hall of La Seu d’Urgell, Jordi Mas, highlighted the fair's growth in space, despite maintaining the same number of participating countries compared to previous years.
The fair served as a showcase for the cultures of countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Morocco, Gambia, Senegal, Algeria, Pakistan, Peru, Brazil, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. This initiative, promoted by the Municipal Council for Solidarity and Cooperation, aims to primarily highlight and celebrate diversity and coexistence among citizens.
Mas recalled that approximately 13,600 people reside in the Urgell capital, of whom more than 20% were born in other countries, representing over sixty nationalities. According to the councilor, "spaces like these demonstrate that if we believe in the richness that comes from different places, they work".
The day featured a varied recreational and cultural program, including typical gastronomy, cultural workshops, dance performances, and storytelling. One of the key objectives of the event is to introduce realities from other parts of the world.
In this regard, a parallel activity has been organized for Thursday, June 18, at the Espai Ermengol. The book Mares migrants. Identitat, memòria i vincle will be presented, with the presence of its author, Fàtima Saheb.
