Figures presented by the Mossos d’Esquadra indicate that crime in the municipality has decreased from 459 to 413 criminal offenses, a 10% drop. The report concludes that La Seu d’Urgell maintains stable security levels and improves its crime resolution rate to 70.5% from 68.4% in the previous period.
The mayor of La Seu d’Urgell, Joan Barrera, highlighted that the 10% reduction in criminal offenses and the 38% decrease in burglaries are the result of constant and coordinated work between the Municipal Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra.
The sub-delegate of the Government in Lleida, José Crespín, emphasized the excellent coordination between security forces and announced the reinforcement of staff with 20 new officers assigned to La Seu.
The reduction in burglaries, particularly in homes and vehicles, has improved the perception of safety. Eight out of ten documented burglaries have resulted in arrests, with several leading to imprisonment. Administrative offenses have seen a moderate increase of 4.3%, attributed to preventive police activity.
Notable operations include the Kanpai Operation against repeat offenders, permanent security reinforcement in the city center, the dismantling of a drug dealing point, and the management of major events without significant incidents.
The Municipal Police carried out 8,270 services, with a strong focus on community policing, including 1,126 school protection services. They also managed 7,044 emergency calls, serving as the primary point of contact for citizens.
Preventive work has focused on minors (70% of actions) and has been extended to the elderly, merchants, families, and other groups.
The population of La Seu d’Urgell has reached a historic high of 13,695 inhabitants, an increase of 246 people compared to the previous year.
Managing disturbances from nightlife remains a priority, aiming to balance vibrant activity with residents' right to rest through dialogue, the new Municipal Ordinance on Civility and Coexistence, and preventive police presence.
An increase in traffic accidents within the urban area (48 accidents, 31 victims) has been noted, considered a serious deterioration of road safety. The new Road Safety Plan from the Servei Català de Trànsit is awaited to implement corrective measures.
Robberies involving violence or intimidation have risen from 5 to 10 incidents, with specific surveillance maintained. Seven of the ten recorded cases were resolved with arrests.
Cybercrime, particularly bank and online scams, is emerging as the main future challenge, requiring coordinated responses and public awareness efforts.
