The history of the organization dates back to a group of neighbors who met to practice bobbin lacemaking. This group of lacemakers was the origin of everything and promoted the first lacemakers' gathering in the province of Lleida, which brought together more than 300 women from all over Catalonia and Andorra.
During this quarter century, Les Madrones have had five presidents, the current one being Maria Gañet, and they group a hundred members. They promote workshops on sewing, cooking, painting, patchwork, or macramé, in addition to collaborating with local festivals and solidarity initiatives such as La Marató de 3Cat.
Since women have entered the workforce outside the home, they have less time, but we continue to be a key meeting point.
The name of the entity comes from Santa Madrona, co-patron saint of Anglesola. In 2004, the association promoted the creation of a wooden carving of the saint, which is preserved in the local church. In December, the Catalan Women's Institute honored the association for its anniversary, along with 23 other women's organizations across Catalonia.
