The Lleida Provincial Council confirmed this Monday its commitment to funding the restoration of the historical archive at the Monastery of Vallbona de les Monges, home to 13th-century documents.

President Joan Talarn visited the Cistercian monastery to inspect the condition of the ancient manuscripts. The project involves civil engineering works to adapt the storage space, specifically focusing on wall repairs and climate control systems to ensure the long-term survival of these medieval musical books.

"We are talking about documents of incalculable heritage value. It is the Council's duty to help conserve the heritage of our territory."

Joan Talarn · President of the Lleida Provincial Council
The initiative will be supported by the Generalitat of Catalonia and the monastic community itself. During the visit, officials also met with Mayor Eduard Montseny to discuss local economic development and the promotion of zero-kilometer products in small rural municipalities.
