The work, inspired by the book Aigua a les venes. Crònica d’un miracle català universal by Francesc Canosa, is presented as a musical journey through the waterways of Ponent. The show features a multidisciplinary staging that integrates elements of dance, theatre, and audiovisuals, with a script by Berta Lacruz.
Musical direction is handled by Xavier Pagès-Corella and stage direction by Dani Coma. Participants include the Orfeó Lleidatà, the Orquestra Simfònica Julià Carbonell de les Terres de Lleida, and the Lleida mezzo-soprano Marta Infante, alongside Santi Serratosa and Jana García in body percussion and dance.
The Urgell Canals constitute the most important hydraulic infrastructure built in Catalonia in the 19th century, transforming the wide plain of Ponent at all levels.
The soundtrack includes great opera choruses by composers contemporary to the canal's construction, such as Verdi, Puccini, Saint-Saëns, and Bizet. Famous excerpts like Va, pensiero from Nabucco, Gloria all’egitto from Aida, and the Habanera from Carmen will be performed, concluding with the premiere of an arrangement of the Goigs a la Verge del Remei.
Before the official premiere in Barcelona on April 20th, the show will be re-premiered on April 19th at the Teatre de la Llotja in Lleida. This production is conceived as a cultural vehicle to understand the origin of the Ponent regions, which irrigate 72,000 hectares and supply 121 municipalities.
