The Preixana City Council has announced a formal consultation with landowners near the Canal d'Urgell to explore a land consolidation process aimed at modernizing local agriculture.

Mayor Jaume Pané presented the plan during the 15th edition of the Enfoquem el futur technical conferences on March 3rd and 4th. The initiative seeks to increase the size of farming plots to ensure profitability amid ongoing irrigation upgrades.

"To face the modernization of the canal and be profitable, we need to gain dimension in our farms, and that requires consolidation."

The event featured economist Francesc Reguant and Carles Gabernet from Infraestructures.cat, who discussed challenges like drought and generational renewal. The town previously completed a similar project with the Segarra-Garrigues canal.
