The capital of Urgell anticipates a fivefold increase in visitor numbers during FiraTàrrega 2026. To ensure safety, a security meeting for the event has been convened, involving authorities, technical staff, and representatives from security, health, and prevention bodies.
Mayor Rosa Maria Perelló highlighted the need to reinforce the Local Police and Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police) forces. The Local Police will triple patrols, while the Mossos d’Esquadra will provide up to sixty patrols and set up a mobile reporting office in plaça del Carme, enabling on-the-spot complaint processing.
Regarding health resources, the CAP de Tàrrega (local health center) will strengthen its emergency medical teams and increase ambulance provision. Civil Guard and Firefighters personnel will also be present. Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) will distribute approximately 5,000 identification bracelets for minors at the information point in plaça de les Nacions sense Estat.
The Urban Planning Department has designed self-protection plans for the performances, renewed for the next four years. The Feminism Department will establish Punts Violeta (Violet Points) to counter potential sexist or LGTBIQ-phobic aggressions at plaça de les Nacions sense Estat and El Reguer, along with other mobile points. The City Council has also provided information on the location of defibrillators.
Mayor Rosa Maria Perelló thanked the involved bodies for their work and emphasized the importance of prevention. The meeting also included the participation of the Councilor for Governance, Anna Maria Farré; the Councilor for Culture, Miquel Nadal; the executive director of the event, Abigail Ballester; the Deputy Government Delegate, Josep Crespín; and the Director of Territorial Services of the Interior, Josep Ramon Ibarz, among others.
Additionally, portable drinking water fountains and around forty portable toilets, including accessible units for people with reduced mobility, will be available thanks to an agreement with the company Veolia.
The 46th edition of FiraTàrrega will feature 57 performances, primarily in public spaces (72%), with 7% in unconventional venues and 21% in indoor halls.
