The asphalt tasks, which began last Tuesday and will last until Thursday, are part of the roundabout expansion started last October. This intervention plans for the traffic circle to reach a diameter of up to 12 meters. Due to the work, alternative traffic flow has been established in both directions on Tarragona Avenue (part of the C-14), and Josep Tarradellas Avenue has been closed to traffic.
The main objective of the new roundabout is to reduce vehicle speed and increase safety in an area with high pedestrian traffic, as it is located next to the Institut Alfons Costafreda and the Escola Agrària. This action is part of the urban crossing improvement project for the C-14 to promote safer, more accessible, and sustainable mobility along the highly trafficked road.
“"The council reaffirms its commitment to adding safety, accessibility, and sustainability while we await the definitive project for the C-14 bypass, which must be a key infrastructure for the future of our city."
The company Romà Infraestructures i Serveis SAU is executing the project, valued at 287,136 euros. The Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service), is subsidizing the work with 150,000 euros. The plan also includes installing ground reliefs for visually impaired people, expanding the current bike lane, renewing streetlights with LED technology, and installing new pedestrian traffic lights and luminous signals.
