Tàrrega City Council, led by Mayor Alba Pijuan, has brought back the traditional Christmas nativity scene to the lobby six years after it was removed to preserve the secular nature of the institution.

Mayor Alba Pijuan explained that the decision to recover the installation was made after receiving a formal request from the local parish. She emphasized that the goal is for “all citizens” to be able to enjoy this long-standing tradition.

"It is one more point of Christmas decoration and of recovering our traditions, besides being an attraction point during the holidays."

The nativity scene was removed in 2019 following the arrival of the coalition government formed by ERC, the CUP, and the PSC. At that time, the CUP argued that the presence of the nativity scene was inappropriate for maintaining the secular character of the municipal institution.
Pijuan noted that since the CUP left the government, it has been deemed appropriate to reinstall it in the council building. She also added a practical reason, stating that previously it had been considered leaving it at the parish, but there was a “danger of it being stolen” if placed at the church entrance.
