The debate organized by Guanyem Cerdanyola last Saturday, December 13, focused on recovering the old Ca n’Altimira library as a key cultural space for the city, following the participatory model.

The discussion panel, titled “What is happening with culture in Cerdanyola del Vallès?”, brought together various voices from the local cultural sector, including film director Alejandro M. Richarte, retired teacher Carme Brasó, and music professor Queralt Morral. The event was moderated by Víctor González, a member of the organization.
Participants agreed on the lack of a long-term cultural strategy by the council, defining the current model as "excessively event-driven and poorly participated". This criticism was exemplified by the Festa Major del Roser de Maig, where, according to the speakers, "the presence of artists from Cerdanyola is minimal".

"Culture is an essential democratic infrastructure for social cohesion and a tool against hate speech and exclusion policies."

In addition to heritage management, the debate highlighted structural deficiencies such as the lack of rehearsal rooms, a multipurpose hall, and adequate facilities for the music sector, which are historical demands of local entities. It was argued that culture must have a community approach, linked to collective memory and the social return of facilities.
Guanyem Cerdanyola advocated for protecting self-managed spaces, guaranteeing stable resources for entities, and promoting continuous, transparent, and participatory cultural planning, aiming to continue collective work with the neighborhood.
