The Guardia Civil and the Mossos d’Esquadra raided the IRTA-CRESA laboratory in Cerdanyola del Vallès this Wednesday morning, as part of the judicial investigation into the origin of the African Swine Fever outbreak in Catalonia.

The procedure was ordered by the Investigating Court number 2 of Cerdanyola del Vallès and remains under secrecy of summary. Sources close to the operation confirmed that the intervention is strictly following established safety protocols due to the high specialization of the research center.

African Swine Fever is a highly contagious viral disease among pigs and wild boars, carrying a high economic impact, although it poses no risk to human health.

This search takes place amid maximum sanitary alert, as Catalonia has one of the largest pig populations in Europe. The detection of cases has forced the Generalitat to intensify epidemiological surveillance and reinforce biosecurity measures on farms.
Authorities have not provided details regarding the content of the search or the scope of the investigation, which remains open and under judicial direction since the outbreak detection.
