Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Civil are searching the IRTA-CReSA laboratory in Bellaterra today, December 18, as part of the judicial investigation into the origin of the African Swine Fever outbreak.

The search warrant was issued by the Instruction Court number 2 of Cerdanyola del Vallès. The police forces reported that the operation is being carried out following the strict protocols and security measures required for this type of research center.
The IRTA-CReSA laboratory is located near the epicenter of the epidemic, which currently accounts for 26 positive cases found in wild boars. All affected animals have been located within the initial six-kilometer radius, specifically in the Collserola area.

"There is no element that allows us to conclude that swine fever came out of a laboratory."

Salvador Illa · President of the Generalitat
The police search in Bellaterra comes just one day after the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, appeared before the Parliament to dismiss the possibility that the virus originated from the laboratory. President Illa stressed that there is “no element” to conclude that the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak started at the research facility.
