Search at IRTA-CReSA laboratory over African Swine Fever outbreak investigation

Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Civil searched the IRTA-CReSA laboratory in Bellaterra this Thursday morning to investigate the origin of the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak.

The procedure was ordered by the Court of Instruction number 2 of Cerdanyola del Vallès. The search is part of preliminary proceedings that have been declared secret, as confirmed by the two police forces.

Security forces emphasized that the entry and search of the research center facilities are being carried out strictly following “the protocols and security measures required by this type of research center”.
The IRTA-CReSA laboratory, located on the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in Bellaterra, is a reference center for animal health research and food safety, and its involvement highlights the seriousness of the ASF outbreak.
