The Federation of Residents' Associations of Terrassa (FAVT) emphasizes that Catalan is Catalonia's own language, rejecting the notion of bilingualism and warning against linguistic substitution.

From Terrassa, the position of Catalan as the native language of Catalonia is asserted, challenging the historical perception of bilingualism imposed during the Franco regime. It is argued that Catalonia has been 'bilingualized,' a term describing the linguistic substitution the community is experiencing.
While acknowledging the presence of hundreds of other languages in Catalonia, brought by people from diverse backgrounds, it is stressed that Spanish is the only one competing with Catalan for its unifying role. An example is given of the reaction that would be caused by asking to switch to other languages like English or Swahili in a meeting, contrasting with how often it is requested in Spanish, often successfully due to the speakers' lack of assertiveness.
The Catalan language, despite being the 12th most influential language globally and the 88th most spoken, is not declining due to intrinsic flaws. The main causes are historical repression by the Spanish and French states, which has led to a 'learned submission' to switch to Spanish, and current linguistic policies, such as Article 3 of the Spanish Constitution, which subordinate it.
To reverse this situation, positive discrimination measures are proposed, although considered unimaginable for a state with an 'espanyolizing obsession.' The lack of courage from the Catalan political class to implement language protection laws is also criticized.
Finally, it is clarified that Spanish, as a language, is not to blame; the problem lies in its 'sad' and inappropriate role in Catalonia.
