The Catalan film Sirât, directed by Oliver Laxe, has been nominated for the Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film and Best Sound categories, concluding its successful run started at the Cannes Film Festival.

The production, which received the Special Jury Prize at Cannes last May, will compete for the Best Non-English Language Film statuette on March 15th in Los Angeles. Its rivals include titles such as Un simple accidente, El agente secreto, Valor sentimental, and La voz de Hind. In the Best Sound category, it will compete against F1, Frankenstein, Una batalla tras otra, and Los pecadores.

"The complexity and precision of these scenes required days of rehearsals and extensive coordination among international teams."

Albert Martínez Adell · Team Coordinator at In Extremis Film Services
The local connection to Sant Cugat del Vallès lies in the physical special effects (SFX), handled by In Extremis Film Services. This company employs several professionals from Sant Cugat, including Albert Martínez Adell himself, as well as Guim Adell and Marc Sabaté, who worked from the company's facility preparing the necessary materials.
Filming took place between April and June 2024, with locations in Teruel and Morocco. During the Teruel phase, the team recreated the escape of trucks from a 'rave' party, including a van crash and artificial rain. In Morocco, the SFX were more intense, featuring bus and vehicle explosions in the desert, executed precisely and in compliance with local explosive regulations.
