The Cerdanyola City Council, following a proposal by Councillor Pilar Adell, will recover the Jaume Mimó i Llobet Grant to boost local historical research and expand the municipal archive with an auxiliary space at Can Xarau.

The grant, which was last offered between 2001 and 2006, is intended as an essential tool to promote research based on municipal collections. This initiative was announced during the conference dedicated to the documentary collection of the Second Republic mayor, Jaume Mimó i Llobet, held on Friday, January 31 at the municipal library.
The expansion of the municipal archive with an auxiliary space in Can Xarau, which will occupy part of the old factory grounds, will serve as an intermediate phase before the construction of a large-scale municipal archive. This new facility could also house materials from municipal museums.

"to aspire to stop being the municipal archive and become the people's archive"

Àngel Soler · Director of the Cerdanyola Municipal Archive
The documentary collection of Jaume Mimó i Llobet, recently incorporated into the municipal archive after a process of digitization and cataloging, was the focus of the event, which was attended by over fifty people, including the Mimó family. The Grup de Recerques i Estudis de Cerdanyola (GREC), which had previously safeguarded the collection, presented projects to facilitate the incorporation of private collections.

"We conserve to disseminate; otherwise, we are dead"

Enric Cobo · Deputy Director General of Archives and Cultural Management
The Deputy Director General of Archives and Cultural Management, Enric Cobo, closed the event, advocating for selective digitization aimed at citizens.
