The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) has launched the exhibition project ‘Un museu fora del museu’ (A Museum Outside the Museum) to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, an initiative extending to nearly 30 visual arts centers across Catalonia. Curated by Martí Manen, the project aims to bring contemporary art closer to the public by relocating pieces from MACBA's collection and archive to everyday locations.
In Terrassa, coordination is managed by the City Council's Cultural and Audiovisual Promotion Service. The chosen venues to host the artworks are the Abacus cooperative and Cinema Catalunya, with the goal of transforming them into meeting points between contemporary creation and citizens.
Among the notable pieces in the city is a collection of typewritten poems by Joan Brossa (1948-1955), exhibited at Abacus Terrassa until November 30, 2026. Additionally, Cinema Catalunya will screen ‘Commentary’ (1980) from October 1 to November 30, 2026, a pioneering 50-second video art piece by American artist Gary Hill, serving as a humorous manifesto against television.
“"Terrassa's participation in this project reaffirms the city's commitment to the democratization of culture and the desire to bring contemporary creation to all audiences."
Joan Salvador also emphasized that the initiative offers "an opportunity to discover artworks in unexpected places and integrate culture into daily life".
