For weeks, the Carretera de Montcada, from Doré to the Carretera de Rubí, has been experiencing an exceptional situation regarding waste collection. All underground bin access points have been sealed and replaced with conventional bins placed alongside, a measure that has caused discontent and uncertainty among residents. Neighbours report a lack of transparency and improvised actions by the council.
The president of the Segle XX neighbourhood association, Xavier Vives, stated that the situation occurred without prior notice. According to Vives, the municipal response has been limited to the need for a technical study of the system. Residents criticise that this decision comes late, as they had warned the City Council about the urgency of the action over a year ago.
The provisional bins, initially placed in front of the underground access points, caused coexistence problems and reduced walking space. Although they have recently been relocated next to the sealed structures, freeing up the pavement, sanitation issues persist. Odours have intensified as street-level waste is more noticeable, and the temporary bins are not cleaned internally.
Another resident, Juan Carlos Gorina, expressed his concern, believing the underground bin system was an advancement but that accumulated breakdowns have led to a drastic solution. He regrets the lack of information and the treatment received, calling for informative posters signed by the awarded company and the service manager, criticising the council's "zero transparency."
Municipal sources explained that during scheduled maintenance tasks by Eco-Equip, it was detected that the condition of the underground bins requires a "global intervention". As a preventive measure, they have been temporarily rendered inoperable to analyse the best possible option.
A sense of helplessness is profound among residents. Xavier Vives reiterates the collective discouragement, feeling ignored in decisions that directly affect citizens, such as the ability to dispose of waste under minimal conditions, especially after having provided advance warning.
