Crime rate in Sant Cugat drops nearly 10% in one year, despite rise in sexual assaults

The balance presented by the City Council and police forces shows a generalized reduction, placing the crime ratio below 37 per thousand inhabitants.

The Sant Cugat City Council, Local Police, and Mossos d'Esquadra presented the security report on February 4, 2026, revealing a 9.7% decrease in criminal incidents compared to the previous year.

The overall reduction in crime in Sant Cugat del Vallès accounts for 388 fewer incidents, dropping from 3,987 in 2024 to 3,599 in 2025. The bulk of this improvement is concentrated in crimes against property, which represent 82% of the total and fell by 12.5%. Within this category, thefts decreased by 19.3%, scams by 32.2%, and robberies with violence or intimidation by 8.5%.
Despite the general downward trend, worrying increases are observed in certain types of burglaries. Home burglaries rose by 5.5% (247 cases), while burglaries at businesses (from 12 to 26) and establishments (from 32 to 44) also grew significantly. By neighborhood, the Sant Cugat Nucleus concentrates the majority of home burglaries (162), although Valldoreix experienced a notable reduction, from 40 to 16 cases.

The crime rate in Sant Cugat stands at 36.73 incidents per 1,000 inhabitants, a substantial improvement compared to the 41.3 recorded in 2024.

Crimes against persons remained stable (-0.5%), but the report highlights the increase in sexual assaults, which rose from 18 to 23 cases, an increase of 27.7%. In the area of domestic violence, abuse in the home and habitual physical or psychological violence decreased by more than 20%. Illegal occupations (squatting) also fell significantly, with 22 cases, 38.8% less than the previous year.
