The Can Rull farmhouse in Sabadell was the venue this Saturday, May 30th, for a large 'Cruz de Mayo' celebration, organized by the Agrupación Andaluza de San Sebastián de los Ballesteros. The event, held since 2006, attracted a significant number of attendees, as highlighted by the entity's president, Joaquín Lesmes.
The day began with a 'rociera' mass and the blessing of a cross decorated with flowers. Subsequently, the Sabadell City Council made a floral offering. The large turnout required some attendees to move to the outdoor courtyard to continue with the religious ceremony.
“"We moved people to the courtyard because we didn't fit, and then we went back inside to continue with the mass."
One of the most emotional moments was the performance by the 'rociero' choir, which sang traditional songs that moved the audience. The preparation of the cross and the venue involved intensive work, with six members of the association dedicating a week to arranging plants and pots to beautify the space.
“"Some people were moved to tears because it's very beautiful to hear these voices in a mass like this."
The celebration continued with sevillanas performances, dancing, and a shared aperitif, creating a relaxed atmosphere where attendees could converse and enjoy the festivities. President Lesmes emphasized the importance of these events in promoting Andalusian culture in Sabadell, stating, "If we didn't do this, perhaps no one would even know we exist."
