The city of Sabadell has reached 224,589 residents thanks to immigration, which offsets a negative natural balance where deaths have outnumbered births for seven consecutive years.

According to recent Idescat data, the city added 3,025 inhabitants last year. This growth is almost entirely explained by international migration, contributing 2,784 people, or 90% of the total increase.

"Sabadell reflects what is happening in Catalonia: falling birth rates and immigration driving city growth."

The demographic shift is stark: while 2,300 births were recorded in 2012, the figure dropped to 1,610 in 2024. With 1,890 deaths, natural growth has remained negative since 2018.
