Actor Joel Joan stages 'Vania', a reinterpretation of Chekhov's classic, this Friday at the Centre Cultural Els Costals in Castellbisbal.

This Friday, May 29th, Catalan actor Joel Joan will take the stage at the Centre Cultural Els Costals in Castellbisbal to revisit a classic by the Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov. The play 'Vania' is a monologue adaptation of the 1897 work 'Uncle Vanya'.
The play, adapted by Simon Stephens, offers a reinterpretation of the text set in the present day and outside of Tsarist Russia. The monologue, directed by Nelson Valente, features the performance of Barcelona-based actor Joel Joan, known for his roles in TV3 series such as Plats Bruts, Porca Miseria, or El Crac.
'Vania' is presented as a mosaic of characters anchored to a secluded ancestral home, where what will likely be their last summer will unfold. From Els Costals, they emphasize that, as in other Chekhov classics, the focus is not on the plot but on the 'hidden life' of the characters.

Their true inner life, the moods of men and women who, with more or less anguish and more or less resignation, witness the fulfillment of the destiny that has befallen them.

Tickets can be purchased through the Els Costals website or at the Cultural Centre's box office one hour before the performance. The price is 12 euros for advance tickets and 14 euros on the day of the show.
