Bakeries in Sabadell have reported a slight increase in Easter cake sales this year, with a clear trend towards more contemporary offerings. K-pop themed cakes have become the most requested, outperforming those featuring princesses, footballers, and series characters, according to several local artisans.
At Forn de Sant Jaume, Salut Torrent confirmed that sales are keeping pace with the previous year, highlighting the success of K-pop cakes, those of Barça with figures like Lamine or Aitana, the Cat Culer, and the ever-popular Frozen. Torrent emphasized that, despite the intense work, the campaign is very motivating.
“"K-pop cakes with Frozen are triumphant, as are more traditional proposals such as footballs, basketballs, and chocolate boots."
Meanwhile, Esteve Corsellas from Valero bakery reported a 10% increase in orders compared to 2025. Although the traditional cake remains the best-seller, chocolate platforms are gaining more followers. K-pop themes also lead here, followed by those of Centre d’Esports Sabadell, which have almost doubled sales, as Valero produces the club's official cake.
At Can Llong, Molycakes, Núria Molina had to stop accepting orders due to high demand, highlighting the success of K-Pop Demon Hunter, Stranger Things cakes, and the popular egg-piñata. Despite the emergence of new trends, the traditional brioche cake, known as Mona Cristina, has experienced a strong resurgence. Anna Carreras from Forn Carreras has opted exclusively for this variant, which cannot be stored like chocolate cakes, asserting its essence.
The pastry shop La Palma, which won second prize for the best traditional Easter cake in Catalunya last year, has seen this recognition boost the Mona Cristina. Pepi Sanfeliu explained that this brioche cake, made with flour, eggs, sourdough, citrus, and slow fermentation, and decorated with almonds and feathers, is once again highly desired. She also observed changes in purchasing habits, with families buying it earlier or celebrating it the following weekend.
“"The traditional mona was forgotten and has regained strength."
At Forn Cabrianes, they also maintain their commitment to tradition, offering classic butter, fruit, cream, and truffle cakes, as well as the brioche cake with a hard-boiled egg. Eva Fernàndez, president of Sabadell Comerç Centre and Forn Centenari, confirmed a slightly higher demand than in 2025, with chocolate orders almost closed and a wide variety of themes, including K-pop, Paw Patrol, Dragon Ball, and Stranger Things. She highlighted that the figure of the godfather remains, and Easter continues to be a key date for the sector.
