The construction of a bypass in Sentmenat, a demand dating back to the late nineties, has initiated informative and environmental impact studies to divert heavy traffic from the urban core.

This infrastructure, aimed at preventing heavy vehicles from passing through the town center, is one of Sentmenat's oldest demands. The primary goal is to reduce congestion and improve road safety. After years of political discussions and academic analyses, the project has returned to the forefront, although its realization still seems distant.
The local government has highlighted the bypass as one of the key challenges of the current term. In early 2025, the Generalitat launched the informative and environmental impact study, an unprecedented step. Currently, four route alternatives are being evaluated, all starting from the B-142 road, with the intention of initially connecting to the Can Clapers industrial estate and, subsequently, to the C-1413a road. The town council is collaborating with the Directorate General of Mobility Infrastructures and has requested public hearings once the studies are completed.

"The swimming pool and the southern bypass are priorities for this term."

Last April, a debate organized by local entities such as Protegim l'Entorn de Sentmenat (PES) and the Associació de Defensa i Estudi de la Natura (Adenc) highlighted the project's complexity, especially in balancing mobility improvement with the preservation of agroforestry areas. The environmental document is expected to enter a new phase before summer, prior to the drafting of the executive project and subsequent construction.

"We need to listen much more to the experts, and not so much to politicians. We want to know the implications of each route."

Residents and the business sector support the bypass due to its importance for freight transport, provided that the impact on the territory is minimal. According to municipal reports, the infrastructure could divert over 6,000 vehicles daily from the urban core. The Chamber of Commerce of Sabadell has also offered its support to the council to promote the works.
The debate on the Sentmenat bypass draws inspiration from similar models in neighboring towns like Palau-solità i Plegamans and Polinyà. From the ERC group, which chairs the Bypass Monitoring Commission, there is a call to accelerate the process and achieve broad consensus. An urban planning expert suggests a more global vision, considering connections with other municipalities such as Castellar and Caldes, and even exploring a railway option. However, the Adenc advocates for a shorter route with less agricultural impact, directly connecting the industrial areas of Can Roure and Can Clapers.

"All parties recognize the need to eliminate heavy traffic from the urban core. Differences arise when it comes to limiting territorial impact. As far as possible, we must preserve existing agricultural land and use already developed land that can combine both functions."
