The railway day on Tuesday was particularly complicated for Rodalies users in Terrassa, with delays exceeding 30 minutes on the R4 line, the city's main connection to the metropolitan area. The disruptions spread across the entire Catalan network, forcing trains to stop circulating twice due to failures at the Adif Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) center.
The lines with the highest delays were the R11 (between Barcelona and Portbou), the R16 and R17 (towards Tortosa and Salou-PortAventura), and the RG1, with delays surpassing one hour. On lines R1, R2, and R4, trains circulated with average delays of more than 30 minutes.
“"Rodalies suffers structural problems dating back decades, and the incidents are due to accumulated disinvestment, the aged state of the rolling stock, and recent technical system failures."
Given the situation, the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, apologized to users during his appearance in Congress and assured that the service will be gradually restored in the coming days. Puente also pointed to an “excess of construction works” and the tension among railway drivers as factors that have “aggravated the situation”.
Meanwhile, alternative bus services remain active between Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Martorell, as well as between Terrassa and Manresa. Regarding the Lleida lines, the RL4 maintains speed limitations between Lleida and Cervera, while the journey to Terrassa Estació del Nord is provided by bus.
