Institut Can Roca in Terrassa is facing a significant issue with the facade of CAP Can Roca, which shares a wall with the educational center. The school's Parents' Association (AFA) is highly concerned that, in the upcoming academic year, students may not have adequate space for recreation or physical education classes. Consequently, they are urging the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa (CST), which manages the CAP and owns the wall, to find a swift solution.
The wall's poor condition was first identified in December of last year. Following inspections by the Police, CST, Firefighters, and technicians from the Department of Education, the risk of collapse was confirmed. As a safety measure, fences and a large protective grate were installed, reducing the playground area by nearly half. This situation particularly affects the 500 ESO students who use the playground indoors, while Baccalaureate students go outside.
Technicians from the Department of Health visited the institute in April to assess the repair requirements, aiming to have the project ready for tender. However, it has been communicated that the process, despite being a minor contract, could delay the start of works until October, after the academic year has begun. The AFA is calling for an urgent repair, as the playground will be completely unusable during construction, raising questions about where students will conduct their activities.
The school's director, Daniel Garreta, has stated that the procedures have been excessively delayed since the damage was detected. While acknowledging the need to follow administrative processes, he believes the timeline could have been expedited. Garreta has expressed gratitude for the safety measures implemented to protect students but regrets the slow pace of the final resolution.
The Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa emphasized that the installation of the protective netting aims to prevent any risk of falling debris and ensure the safety of citizens and professionals. Regarding the CAP facade repair, the CST states that the Servei Català de la Salut, as the building owner, is working to resolve the issue promptly and with all necessary technical and safety guarantees. Affected parties will be informed soon.
