Protesters highlighted that current classroom sizes exceed OECD recommendations found in the Education at a Glance 2024/2025 report. They argue that the Department of Education is using demographic changes as an excuse to weaken the public system in favor of private management.
Specific concerns were raised regarding l'Olivera and Gerbert d'Orlhac schools, which are at risk of losing classes next term. This follows previous closures at Pins del Vallès, sparking a debate about why public centers are targeted while subsidized private schools remain largely unaffected in Sant Cugat.
The strike also included workers from the extracurricular and leisure education sector. They are calling for an end to the outsourcing of these services to private firms like Paidos, demanding better working conditions and integration into the public network.
