The Rubi Housing Union has officially resumed its operations in Rubi this February 2026, ending a four-year period of inactivity to tackle the city's growing residential crisis.

According to the collective, average rent in the city has jumped from under 500 euros in 2016 to over 700 euros today, marking a 47% increase. This trend is forcing many families to spend more than half of their income on housing, leading to local displacement.

"We consider it unfair that more than half of a salary must be invested just to have a roof."

A key focus for the union is the 196 Sareb-owned apartments located in Rubi. Now part of the Housing Union Confederation of Catalonia (COSHAC), the group demands these properties be transferred to public hands for social housing.
The group also criticized the Rubi City Council for its perceived lack of effective housing policies. Currently led by five active members, the union plans to hold a public assembly in March to boost participation and coordinate strategies with the PAH.
