The Mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés, announced that local police have identified a group of 10 to 13 repeat offenders who exploit legal loopholes to commit an average of eight thefts every day in the city.

These individuals focus on low-value thefts under 400 euros to avoid jail time. In 2024 alone, Sabadell recorded nearly 3,000 thefts, making it the most common crime in the municipality. The local government expects new legislation currently in the Senate to finally allow prison sentences for those with three or more prior offenses.

"We will appear as a party in all proceedings."

The Sabadell City Council plans to take a more active role in court cases to request restraining orders from specific neighborhoods. Despite the high volume of incidents, data from the first nine months of 2025 shows a slight 1.6% decrease in reported thefts compared to the previous year.
