Sabadell maintains socio-economic gap with average income of 14,787 euros

The city remains below the Catalan average as disparities between neighborhoods like the City Center and Can Puiggener widen.

The city of Sabadell ended 2023 with a Territorial Socio-economic Index (IST) of 97.5 points, a figure that places the municipality below the average for Catalonia.

According to data published by Idescat, the indicator measuring employment, education, and income levels has remained stable compared to the previous year. Despite this general stability, per capita income grew by an average of 5.35%, reaching 14,787 euros annually across the city's 22 census groups.
A detailed analysis by area reveals strong polarization. The City Center, specifically the Town Hall and Maristes area, remains the wealthiest sector with 22,238 euros per capita. At the other extreme is Can Puiggener, where the average income is 9,855 euros, despite a positive year-on-year growth of nearly 7%.
Regarding the labor market, areas like Can Llong-Castellarnau show an employment rate of 78.6%. In contrast, in Can Puiggener, almost half of the working-age population is unemployed, and 24.8% of workers are classified as low-skilled.
Within the Vallès Occidental region, Sabadell lags behind the municipalities with the best indicators. Matadepera leads the Catalan ranking with an IST of 129.9 and an income of 26,720 euros, followed closely by Sant Cugat del Vallès with an index of 123 points.
