The declaration, promoted by the left-wing opposition groups (ERC, Crida, and Sabadell En Comú Podem), was approved thanks to the abstention of the PSC, which holds the absolute majority in the municipal corporation. Junts per Sabadell also abstained, while Vox and the PP voted against the text.
The motion condemns the 'military and political interference' of the United States in Venezuela and expresses its solidarity with the 'Venezuelan people in the face of this aggression'.
The approved text demands the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cília Flores, and calls for the withdrawal of narcoterrorism charges filed against them, which the document deems to have no legal basis.
In addition to denouncing US interference in the Caribbean and defending the sovereignty of nations, the declaration criticizes the "inaction" of the Spanish State, the European Union, and NATO. It requests the Catalan Government to publicly position itself against the intervention.
This stance, considered more symbolic than practical, reiterates that "only the people of Venezuela must freely decide their future" and condemns imperialism. According to Idescat data, over 1,700 citizens with Venezuelan nationality reside in Sabadell.
