The Mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés, welcomed this February the approval of a new law against repeat offenders that will allow prison sentences for criminals with three or more thefts.

The legal reform follows a long-standing demand from local authorities. Marta Farrés, president of the Arc Metropolità Association of Municipalities, believes this measure will end the impunity of those who repeatedly commit crimes in the city.

"Impunity had to end and we have achieved it. We are very happy. Now the full weight of justice will fall on them."

The new legal framework will allow city councils to act as private prosecutors. Additionally, it enables preventive measures such as restraining orders, which could ban offenders from living in Sabadell or anywhere in Catalonia.
