The Casa de Cultura in Sant Cugat del Vallès will host the 1st Conference on Multiculturalism on April 18, an event designed to recognize and value the cultural diversity of the municipality.

This initiative, aimed at all residents of Sant Cugat who come from other countries and cultures, will focus on three fundamental pillars: coexistence, tolerance, and plurality. These concepts are considered essential for the inclusive development of a city in constant growth and transformation.
The main objective of the conference is to create a space that facilitates integration into Sant Cugat's and Catalan culture, while also supporting initiatives that allow for the maintenance of each community's unique identity. The goal is to listen to the concerns of diverse multicultural communities, foster interaction among their members, and collaborate with existing associations, encouraging the creation of new ones.

"When I speak of integration, I want to emphasize that it is necessary to immerse oneself in our culture, but we do not want to lose ties with our origins, sharing traditions and celebrating what unites us."

Carme Ardid · Councillor for Education, Universities and Multiculturalism
Councillor Carme Ardid (Junts) has highlighted the importance of cultural associations as key agents in achieving these objectives. She emphasized the need to publicize these entities, promote new ones, and involve all citizens in building a more open, respectful, and plural Sant Cugat. Tolerance and pluralism are fundamental values in democratic societies, crucial for a multicultural society based on mutual respect.
This space of trust with the municipal administration, designed to share experiences and ways of understanding the world, is vital for moving towards a city that also grows in 'global citizens'. Plurality is perceived as a shared richness and a collective heritage that contributes to making Sant Cugat a more vibrant and cohesive municipality.
