According to the latest data from the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), the average salary in Catalonia stands at around €31,700 gross per year. Sant Cugat del Vallès, located in Vallès Occidental, stands out above municipalities like Castelldefels (€38,500) and Barcelona itself (€36,400).
In 2024, most municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants have seen an increase in salary income compared to the previous year. Sant Cugat led this growth with 5.9%, followed by Mollet del Vallès (5.7%) and Granollers (5.6%). The only municipality with over 50,000 inhabitants that has not seen its salaries increase is Manresa, which has remained practically stable.
Despite the general improvement, a significant gender pay gap persists. Men earn an average of approximately €34,400 gross per year, while women receive €28,700. Sant Cugat and Castelldefels also top this gender ranking, while Santa Coloma de Gramenet shows the lowest figures.
By sector, financial, real estate, and communication activities, along with public administration, offer the highest remuneration (€45,500). However, in Sant Cugat, Tarragona, and Castelldefels, the industrial sector generates the most income.
Regarding contract types, workers with permanent contracts earn an average of €38,800, compared to €25,700 for temporary contracts. Sant Cugat also leads these categories, with salaries of €56,700 for permanent and €36,000 for temporary positions. Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Manresa record the lowest salaries in these segments.
Finally, the difference between full-time and part-time employment is considerable. Full-time employees earn around €34,000 gross, while part-time workers receive €18,700. Sant Cugat is once again the town with the highest salaries in both modalities (€58,800 for full-time and €27,700 for part-time).
