The intense rain episode that affected Catalonia last weekend left an accumulation of 50 liters of water per square meter at the CAR meteorological station in Sant Cugat, with maximum wind gusts of 32 kilometers per hour, according to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC).
This situation caused Sant Cugat del Vallès to be the municipality with the highest number of incidents reported across the country, with 24 calls to 112 since the start of the episode. This figure surpassed the 21 calls from Lleida and 20 from Barcelona, contributing to the total of over 500 warnings throughout the Catalan territory.
The Bombers (Firefighters) primarily had to respond to two fallen trees during Saturday. One fell onto power lines on Avinguda de Pere Planes, and the other forced the closure of the carretera de Rubí a Sant Quirze until it was cleared. They also intervened on the B-30, cleaning drains due to water accumulation that had triggered an accident warning.
“"This episode has been described as a 'textbook llevantada' (major storm), and it is expected to affect the country, especially the northeast, between this Monday and Tuesday."
Other notable services included the rescue of three people trapped in elevators in Coll Favà, which stopped due to a power outage on Saturday morning. Additionally, a minor landslide was recorded at la Rabassada which, although not requiring Bombers intervention, highlighted the intensity of the rainfall.
