The celebration of April 23rd in Sabadell, capital of Vallès Occidental, was marked by a large influx of people who overflowed the Rambla and other key points of the city. From early morning, book and rose stalls received a constant stream of visitors, creating a festive and cultural atmosphere that lasted throughout the day.
One of the points of interest was the coexistence between the local bookstore La Llar del Llibre, with a history dating back to 1957, and the recently established large chain La Casa del Libro. This situation had generated a "friendly rivalry" which, according to the owners of La Llar del Llibre, sought to highlight the uniqueness of local commerce. Despite the competition, both bookstores registered frantic activity, demonstrating citizens' interest in reading.
“"Neither better nor worse, simply different."
The day was full of contrasts, with Sabadell's Rambla packed with people and an unexpected wind that added a particular touch to the festival. Bookstore employees expressed their surprise at the large turnout, especially at La Casa del Libro, which saw unusual queues for a weekday. For its part, La Llar del Llibre absorbed dozens of visitors in its spacious area, with an equally intense atmosphere.
“"They are from here all their lives, we have to support them so they are always here."
Beyond the duality between the two establishments, the city experienced a full cultural day. Sabadell authorized more than a hundred rose sales points and dozens of book stalls, with the Rambla and Doctor Robert Square as epicenters of activity. Bookstores highlighted the effort of months of preparation for such a significant day, which begins in February and extends until June with the management of returns.
“"Today the important thing is to go out, meet people and look around."
