The persistence of high temperatures and occasional rainfall in recent weeks has created optimal conditions for the tiger mosquito's reproduction. In response, the council of Sant Quirze del Vallès emphasizes the need to maintain preventive measures, particularly in private spaces such as gardens, patios, and balconies.
Water accumulation in containers, holes, or other places, combined with high temperatures, accelerates the development of larvae and the hatching of eggs. To combat the proliferation of this invasive species, it is crucial to eliminate any standing water, no matter how small.
The City Council advises regularly emptying any containers that may collect water, such as plant pot saucers, buckets, or toys. It also recommends removing items that retain water and keeping outdoor areas clean. For fixed containers, it is necessary to prevent them from filling or to protect them adequately. Residents are urged to periodically check gardens, patios, and terraces, especially after rainfall.
Citizen cooperation is considered key, as many breeding sites are found in private spaces. Eliminating these small water sources helps to interrupt the mosquito's reproductive cycle.
Concurrently, the council continues its prevention and control efforts in public areas, including cleaning the edges of paths and streams, as well as applying larvicidal treatments to drains to prevent larvae from reaching the adult stage.
