The first phase of the new urbanization of the Eix de la Via in Vilafranca del Penedès, between the Historical Archive and Lluís Companys Avenue, is advancing according to schedule and is expected to be completed before Christmas.

The work covers the area between Germanor and Tossa de Mar streets, spanning nearly 5,700 m² with a budget of 1 million euros, of which 400,000 euros are from a grant by the Barcelona Provincial Council. Mayor FranCisco Romero highlighted that the project incorporates resident contributions for leisure and physical activity uses, such as a circular basketball hoop, ping-pong tables, calisthenics equipment, and a picnic area.
The intervention will also improve pedestrian connections between La Girada and Poble Nou with new accessible routes and shaded areas. Measures for climate change adaptation are included, featuring permeable pavements, green verges, and a vegetated basin to manage rainwater, which is expected to drain within 10 hours.
Joan Batlle, from Batlle i Roig, who is directing the project, emphasized the importance of water management in preparing public spaces for increasingly intense rainfall events.
The project includes 59 free parking spaces with permeable pavements and the naturalization of green spaces with new trees and shrubs.
This first phase is part of a larger project divided into three areas. The second phase plans for a new children's play area, and the third involves adapting a dog recreation zone.
