The Santa Perpètua City Council held an initial meeting with the administrations of the four public schools and representatives of the parents' associations to inform them about the municipal decision to invest €400,000 in climate control for these facilities. The meeting took place on October 13 in the Council Chamber.
Mayor Joan Carles Mingueza, Education Councillor Ana Bajo, and the head of Territory, Climate Action, and Local Development, Sergi Hernández, presented the municipal objectives and work plan to the educational representatives of Bernat de Mogoda, Can Filuà, La Florida, and Santa Perpètua schools.
The Council is already working on the tender specifications for a climate needs assessment study, aligned with the reports from the Generalitat de Catalunya's 'Actualitza Clima' Plan. This document will define the necessary thermal comfort improvements. In parallel, the City Council will request the Generalitat to include the local schools in its investment projects and will use the €400,000 approved in September for specific improvements.
Education Councillor Ana Bajo emphasized the need for "optimal climatic conditions" for students and teachers, stating that the current situation "makes teaching impossible." She highlighted that the need for cooling is now more critical than heating for much of the school year.
Bajo explained that the City Council will pressure the Generalitat to include Santa Perpètua's schools in the 'Actualitza Clima' Plan. She also urged parents' associations to raise awareness of these needs with the regional administration. It was mentioned that the IE Can Filuà school recorded temperatures of 34.5 degrees Celsius in September and has joined the 'Aules que cremen' (Classrooms on Fire) platform.
The goal is for the improvements to be co-financed by the Generalitat, as it holds educational responsibilities. However, the City Council "could not stand idly by waiting," the councillor stated.
