The swine fever outbreak affecting wild boars in Collserola continues to spread, with 16 new cases detected in the last week, bringing the total to 284 infected animals since November.

This week, the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat has extended access restrictions to natural areas in the municipality of Castellbisbal, after confirming the presence of an infected wild boar within its limits. This measure increases to 19 the number of localities in the province of Barcelona affected by mobility prohibitions.
The department has contacted the mayor of Castellbisbal to sign a resolution preventing public access to the natural environment of the town, a decision already in effect in the other 18 at-risk municipalities, including the city of Barcelona.

"The authorities will sanction anyone who violates the prohibition."

the Minister of Agriculture
Although it was initially stated that the prohibitions were not intended for revenue collection and that security forces would act pedagogically, nine economic sanctions have already been imposed for non-compliance. The minister emphasized the danger of accessing areas such as Collserola Park at night, when culls are carried out to control the wild boar population, and reminded that following instructions is crucial to ensure people's safety.
To reinforce the control of African swine fever (ASF), an emergency contract of seven million euros has been activated. This investment will allow the incorporation of 170 new personnel, more than 50 vehicles, and 50 additional traps into the existing operation.
Despite each new positive delaying the opening of international markets for pork by 12 months, the minister expressed satisfaction with the recovery of pork meat prices, which are three cents below pre-outbreak levels, and with the opening of new pork product exports to China, one of the main importers in the Catalan market.
