Terrassa Commemorates Second Republic with Program of Reivindicative Events

The Commission for the Third Republic of Terrassa has organized an extensive program of activities throughout April to commemorate the proclamation of the Second Republic, including rallies, talks, and reivindicative dinners.

The entity highlighted the complexity of the current moment, pointing to the presence of fascism in various forms both in Terrassa and globally. They emphasized the importance of continuing to advance to build a dignified life, stating that the republic represents a horizon and a democratic and social necessity.

The program of events began on Sunday, April 12, with a rally at the Parc de la República, where a manifesto was read calling for a full, participatory, secular, and republican democracy, as well as a sustainable socioeconomic system. The flag-raising was accompanied by the Himno de Riego, performed by Daniel Garcia, a student from the Conservatori de Terrassa, on saxophone.
Among the planned activities, on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 PM, the Casal Cívic de Sant Pere will host the talk “The Second Republic in the European Context,” given by Rafa Espinosa, with free admission. Additionally, on the same day, Esquerra Republicana is organizing the Republic Dinner at the Societat Coral Els Amics, featuring the presentation of the 22nd Gorra Frígia Awards, hosted by Pau Maza.
Local events will culminate on Saturday, April 25, with another Republic Dinner at the Ateneu Cultural Andaluz, located on Mallorca street (former Germans Amat school), at 8 PM. The dinner price is 15€.
The commemoration will extend beyond Terrassa, with the Commission's participation in the third edition of the Republican March in Madrid on Sunday, June 13. Under the slogan “Republic for Peace,” the event will emphasize that a 21st-century republic must guarantee coexistence, cooperation, and friendship among peoples.
