The expansion of vineyards in Vallès Occidental began in the 18th century and reached its peak in the mid-19th century. This golden era was first devastated by phylloxera and later overshadowed by the rise of the textile industry. The final blow came with the construction boom of the 1960s, which buried the agricultural landscape under asphalt.
Currently, three estates within the municipality of Terrassa exemplify the commitment to reviving native grapevines in the area. The municipal estate of Mossèn Homs, leased in 2021 to Rabassaires for urban vineyard recovery within the Anella Verda (Green Belt), is progressing alongside private efforts at the Font de Gaià estate and the lands of Santa Magdalena de Puigbarral.
These three operations are shaping a new active wine landscape in the region. The Regulatory Council has approved the inclusion of Terrassa within the expanded zone of the DO Catalunya, effective in late July, a move considered historical justice for the territory.
