The advertising for Estrella Damm, a staple of summer's arrival in Catalonia, has launched its new offering this year, coinciding with the brand's 150th anniversary. The narrative centers on a character known as 'el Canyut', a young man who finds summer work measuring land in a Catalan coastal town.
During a hurried workday, the protagonist suffers an accident and falls into the sea. According to local residents, 'As he didn't know how to swim, he sank.' However, miraculously, the character, played by Xavier González, reappears on the beach accompanied by a mysterious young woman.
From this encounter onwards, the pair integrates into the town's life. The girl teaches the Canyut to swim and imparts essential local knowledge, such as 'drinking beer from a porró'. Summer eventually ends, and with it, the protagonist's job.
On the night of Saint Lawrence's Day, the Canyut and his companion share their first kiss on a seaside bar terrace. She tells him: 'Perhaps one day like today in a place like this. I always return to places where I've been happy,' hinting at a possible reunion.
The next day, the Canyut heads home but decides to return to the town searching for the girl. Although the townsfolk don't remember her and consider him mad, he remains convinced of his experience. Every year on Saint Lawrence's Day, he returns to the same bar, waiting for her. In the final seconds of the advert, she appears, ordering a beer at the counter.
Locals describe the Canyut as 'an inland guy who has never seen the sea,' with an appearance that could fit someone from Terrassa. His technical job might link him to the UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia). Furthermore, the Saint Lawrence festival is significant in the Vallès city, lending its name to a neighborhood and being an important saint. The fact that the actor, Xavier González Arnau, is from Terrassa, strengthens this theory.
