The intervention will focus on the section between Plaça del Progrés and Carrer de Grànius. The main objective is to transform this often-congested thoroughfare into a more pleasant environment with more green spaces for pedestrians. The award to Servial came after their proposal received the highest score in the public tender, outperforming a total of eight construction companies.
Servial's economic offer, including VAT, was 689,007.24 euros, representing a 22.39% reduction compared to the initial tender budget of 887,751.64 euros. This reduction was crucial in securing the sixty points allocated to the economic section of the tender.
The reurbanization of Arquimedes Street will involve a comprehensive transformation of its current appearance. The aim is to consolidate improvements already tested through tactical urbanism, turning the street into a
civic axis where pedestrian passage is clearly prioritized.
The design includes a significant widening of sidewalks to improve accessibility, while maintaining a granite curb with a 3-centimeter separation from the roadway to ensure proper water drainage. Various textures and colors will be combined to differentiate the uses of each space: the traditional nine-tile paving for pedestrian areas and red ceramic cobblestones with Corten steel elements for resting areas, adding warmth to the environment.
Additionally, the project includes measures to mitigate the “heat island” effect with the creation of new linear flowerbeds where deciduous trees will be planted. This initiative aims to generate shaded areas during the summer and improve air quality. This facade-to-facade intervention will be complemented by a future second phase, pending subsidy, which will connect the green area of Plaça del Progrés with Plaça de Freixa i Argemí via the intersection with Carrer de Gutenberg.
