The City Hall atrium was filled with young voices and the dim light of candles in a collective gesture of memory and commitment. Students from Montserrat Roig, Torre del Palau, Can Roca, and Pere Viver institutes were responsible for giving voice to the memory, reading emotional texts before the municipal corporation and representatives of the city's associative fabric.
The event was a collective gesture of remembrance and commitment against the oblivion of barbarism.
The tribute combined speeches and musical pieces with a symbolic lighting of six candles as a closing act. Each flame was dedicated to one of the groups that suffered the horror of the concentration and extermination camps.
The ceremony highlighted how the barbarity affected the Jewish and Roma people, and how it also persecuted political dissent. Special remembrance was made for the deported Spanish Republicans, as well as for those persecuted for their sexual orientation, religious reasons, or having a disability.
